Matheson, Wright tops in derby

The pair of Dave Matheson and Allan Wright of St. George combined to register the largest aggregate catch of 12.98 pounds to finish first in the New Brunswick SportFishing Association smallmouth bass fishing tournament held at Magaguadavic Lake. The biggest single catch was 4.18 pounds. Second place went to the team of Martin Bear and Martin Bear Jr. of Fredericton with an aggregate catch of 12.40 pounds. The husband and wife team of Phil and Nancy Barrett from Lincoln finished third with total catch of 11.90 pounds. Next event is scheduled for Oromocto Aug. 2-3.

Royals earn split

Fredericton pee wee AAA Royals and Western Valley Red Sox split a pair of pee wee AA baseball games. The Red Sox won the first game 7-5 with the Royals eking up the second game 9-8 as Caleb Little got the pitching win with offensive support from Seth Fillmore with a triple and Michael Fulton with a double.
