Oromocto tender awarded
The Town of Oromocto has awarded a tender for the provision and installation of storm sewer, sidewalk, bike path, curb gutter and for the paving of a portion of the Waasis Road.
The winning bid of $886,187.13 was made by Philson Ltd.
Funding for the project was made available from the Gas Tax Rebate Fund and General Capital Reserve Fund.
Scholarship awarded to FHS graduate
A recent graduate of Fredericton High School has been awarded a scholarship to pursue a career in electronics.
Nicholas Brooks has earned the Jeremy Glen Fowler Memorial Scholarship for 2008.
The award is donated in memory of Jeremy Fowler by his family each year to a deserving FHS graduate pursuing a career in electronics.
Brooks begins his first year in electrical engineering at the University of New Brunswick this month.
Take Back the Night march set for Sept. 19
Fredericton's Sexual Assault Crisis Centre will organize a group to join in the 23rd annual Take Back the Night March Friday, Sept. 19 between 8 and 10 p.m.
The global annual event protests violence against women and children.
Organizers have requested that female police officers be assigned to escort the marchers from city hall to Queen, Westmorland, George, Regent and Queen streets as the group circles the downtown before returning to the front steps of city hall where organizers will deliver speeches.
District 18 revises calendar
A revised school calendar for children in School District 18 was circulated at a recent education council meeting.
Most students began the 2008-2009 school year Sept. 3. Their Christmas break will go from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2. March break will be from Mar. 2-6
