The Jonas Brothers to perform at this year's Video Music Awards
NEW YORK - The Jonas Brothers will perform at this year's Video Music Awards.
It will be the wholesome pop group's first-ever appearance at the event, known for its decadence and eye-popping water cooler moments (many involving Britney Spears).
In a statement, brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick said: "This is an awesome opportunity. We have grown up watching all the amazing and iconic performances on the VMAs. It is an honour to be a part of something so incredible."
The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Sept. 7.
As previously announced, in a first for the awards, MTV will enlist its Web-savvy, youthful audience to help decide the nominees.
Viewers can vote on two categories each week including Video of the Year and Best New Artist by visiting the awards' website.
Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen custody battle returns to court
LOS ANGELES - Denise Richards went to court Monday seeking changes to a custody arrangement with ex-husband Charlie Sheen, but didn't get everything she wanted.
Richards and her lawyer brought a video to Los Angeles Superior Court to try to bolster their case, but a court commissioner did not view it.
Instead, he listened to two experts' views and ordered changes to the agreement that were characterized by Sheen's lawyer as "nothing meaningful-" and by Richards' lawyer as beneficial for the pair's two young daughters.
Richards' lawyer, Neal Hersh, acknowledged that Superior Court Commissioner Harvey A. Silberman refused to grant some of the items requested during Monday's closed-door hearing.
Hersh and Sheen's lawyer, Fern Wender, declined to discuss Silberman's orders. They also refused to say what type of experts testified, or what was on the video that Richards hoped to introduce.
"The commissioner denied the majority" of Richards' motion, Wender said afterward.
Sheen did not appear, but Wender said he was pleased with the outcome. Hersh said the changes that were intact will be positive for the couple's children, assuming both parents enact them.
Hersh sought changes last week, citing "serious issues involving the children," but a hearing was not conducted in part because Silberman was on vacation.
Richards, who sat in court on Monday alongside her father throughout much of the morning indicated she was also satisfied with Silberman's rulings. The couple completed a bitter divorce in 2006, and have since waged a contentious battle over the custody and care of their daughters, four-year-old Sam and three-year-old Lola.
