As pastor of the Fredericton Nazarene Church, I submit this letter, sent to Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean and signed by all five district superintendents from across Canada.

We write on behalf of your loyal followers represented in the Church of the Nazarene Canada.

We join millions of Canadians from all faith traditions, and millions of other Canadians who choose to live by secular values, in expressing our deep sadness in hearing of the appointment of Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada.

Since its inception in 1967, the Order of Canada has been a forum by which our country has honored people whose lives and careers have brought a sense of pride and dignity to Canadians.

In reading the list of previous people so honored, we find, without exception, they have enriched all Canadians.

Previous appointments have conscientiously avoided exacerbating political tensions. Mr. Morgentaler's appointment is an affront to the Order of Canada, its previous recipients, and to all Canadians who put the value of our country ahead of any personal agendas.

His personal value system, endorsed by some Canadians, will always be a source of division for modest and moderate Canadians.

His elevation to this order will not add dignity to his gruesome trade; it will only serve to divide us further and sully the reputations of others who have served all Canadians with distinction.

We beg you to use your influence to reverse this decision.

National Director;

Rev. Dr. Larry Dahl,

Yet they apparently had no problem with Rev. Lucien Larré, a minister convicted of child abuse, receiving the honour. Go figure.

I have no doubt that there are like the pastor of the Fredericton Nazarene Church states literately millions that are not happy with this appointment but that said it is unfair to keep suggesting that the values of Mr. Morgentaler are supported by any less numbers than those on the pro-life side. Surely a man of religious conviction has to represent the truth even if that truth is contrary to his one values. Frankly, were it not for the two diametrically opposed sides the majority of Canadians would have come to grips abortion a long time ago.
