Lady Gladiators third in women's football

The two-time defending Maritime Women's Football League champion Capital Area Curves Lady Gladiators settled for third place this year, beating host Halifax Xplosion 22-16 in the Friendship Bowl consolation game.The Saint John Storm claimed the SupHer Bowl with a 24-14 victory over the Moncton Vipers to win the Judy Upward Trophy as league champions.

UNB downs P.E.I. in cricket play

UNB Cricket Club Picaroons won their second match against P.E.I. Cricket Association by five wickets on Sunday. UNBCC won the toss and sent P.E.I. to bat. P.E.I. scored 127. Dunu Eliaba and Mohammad Munim got three wickets each. Aditya Agarwal and Eliaba's batting made this target very chasable and the Picaroons reached their target of 128 runs in about 30 overs with five wickets down.

BNB seeks nominations for service awards

For more than 20 years, Basketball New Brunswick has recognized volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the sport. To nominate an individual for coaching, officiating, executive/builder, special merit or volunteer, please send name, contact information and a brief description of their contribution to awards@basketball.nb.ca.

Presentations will be made during BNB's annual awards evening Sept. 27, in conjunction with the annual general meeting.

Bucket to Boat Club race slated Aug. 9

The 29th edition of the Bucket to Boat Club canoe race takes place Saturday, Aug. 9 on the St. John River beginning with registration at 10 a.m. with the competition beginning at noon from the Bucket Cloub. Categories include open (six miles), stock class (six miles), recreational (three miles), recreational kayak (three miles), recreational family (three miles) and open class (three miles). Youth beach volleyball at Loyalists Field

Fredericton's Loyalists Rugby Club courts provide the venue for Saturday's stop on Volleyball New Brunswick's youth beach volleyball circuit. Action begins at 9 a.m. Competitive divisions include 21U men's category, 16U men's category and 16U female category. Last week, the youth tour stop was in Saint John with the Halifax pair of Jeff Bonhan and Jeff Reith defeating Henri Mallet and Scott Barigan of Fredericton 21-16, 26-28 and 15-12 in the men's 21U final. Winning the women's U21 final was the pair of Jill Blanchard of Saint John and Tanya Paulin of Bathurst.
